Schengen VISA (up to 90 days stay)

Who? Third country nationals generally need a visa to enter Czechia, except for EU nationals and citizens of countries that have a visa exemption agreement with the EU for short stays (up to 90 days within 180 days).

Where do I apply? Czech Embassies and Consulates are responsible for issuing visas. Visa applications must be submitted to the mission responsible for your place of residence. For Schengen visas, applications should be made at the mission of the country that is your main destination.

How much is it? The Schengen visa processing fee is typically EUR 90. Details - we suggest applying for the short-term visa, type C, however, this might differ depending of your country of origin. Please consult your local embassy before applying.

How long does it take? Schengen visa applications are typically processed within 15 calendar days but waiting times may be longer during peak travel seasons (individual cases may take up to 45 days). You can apply 6 months to 15 days before your trip, though appointments can be made earlier.

Procedure: Visa applications must generally be submitted in person at the mission or visa application centre in your place of residence. To avoid delays, check the mission's website ahead of time for the specific visa requirements and documentation. You can complete the application form online and bring a printed copy to your appointment. Details and downloads.

Letter of invitation

If you need a letter of invitation or some other document for your visa application, you can request it over email at info2026@esslli.eu once your registration fee is paid.

Please be aware:

  • Issuing a Schengen visa cannot be guaranteed. In individual cases it may take up to 45 days. Thus, it is important to apply as soon as your travel plans are finalized from up to 6 months ahead of your travel. The invitation letter serves only as a supporting document and does not guarantee the issuance of a visa.
  • In some cases, Charles University cannot guarantee issuing letter of invitation. The eligibility will be considered on individual basis for each applicant. We advise you to contact us prior to registering at  info2026@esslli.eu. Please note that the standard cancellation policies still apply in case you are not deemed eligible for invitation letter.
